The EMAN exists to provide high quality scientific information on mycotoxins, such as aflatoxins, ochratoxin A, trichothecenes (including deoxynivalenol or vomitoxin), fumonisins, zearalenone and ergot alkaloids, to industry, consumers, legislators and the scientific community.

Novel nanobiotechnological concepts in electrochemical biosensors for the analysis of toxins. Biosensors used for the analysis of mycotoxins marine toxins and cyanobacterial toxins are described in this review with emphasis on electrochemical biosensors incorporating nanobiotechnological concepts. Recombinant enzymes recombinant antibody fragments and aptamers are considered together with the use of metallic nanoparticles carbon nanotubes and magnetic particles. The advantages of incorporating nanobiotechnological concepts in terms of improved specificity sensitivity and stability of the biosensors are discussed. The UK Food Standards Agency (FSA) has produced a summary of its research published in April 2012. This includes an investigation into the apparent loss of fumonisins during food processing. The detection of hydrolysed and bound fumonisins is reported.
