Welcome to the European Mycotoxin Awareness Network

The EMAN exists to provide high quality scientific information on mycotoxins, such as aflatoxins, ochratoxin A, trichothecenes (including deoxynivalenol or vomitoxin), fumonisins, zearalenone and ergot alkaloids, to industry, consumers, legislators and the scientific community.

EMAN now operates as a non-profit-making consortium funded through commercial sponsorship. Opportunities are available for companies interested in sponsoring the website. For more information on the network and sponsorship opportunities contact Catherine Entwisle

Survey of mycotoxins in U.S. distiller s dried grains with solubles from 2009 to 2011.

Aflatoxins deoxynivalenol fumonisins T 2 toxin and zearalenone were determined in 67 samples of distillers dried grains with solubles DDGS collected from eight US ethanol plants from 2009 to 2011. Around 12 of samples contained deoxynivalenol levels higher than the US FDA minimum advisory level for use in animal feed and deoxynivalenol levels in all DDGS collected in 2011 were less than 2 mg/kg. Enrichment of deoxynivalenol from contaminated corn to DDGS was about 3.5 fold. Few samples produced in 2010 contained detectable aflatoxins with the highest level of aflatoxins in DDGS being 5.7 mcg/kg. Approximately 6 of samples contained fumonisin levels higher than the FDA guidance level for feeding equids and rabbits. No DDGS samples contained T 2 toxin levels higher than the detection limit while most samples contained zearalenone levels between 100 and 300 mcg/kg.
